When the dust cleared from Blood Nut Season #2, the Savages found themselves with 101 losses. The free-spirited Savages tried to regroup entering Season #3, but still lost 98 games. Following Blood Nut Season #3, the Savages were sent to the Bug Nut League in exchange for the Springfield Carrot Crushers.
Entering their first season as part of the Bug Nut League, the Savages hoped that the change of leagues would be enough to turn the franchise around. The Savages found, however, that life in the Bug Nut League was even harder as they went on to lose a B-Nut record 119 games, leaving them with an average of 106 losses per year for their first three seasons. Not only did the Savages lose in every way imaginable, but they also had their share of off-field problems. Hoping to develop young talent by signing Lucy Ricardo and Richard Dreyfuss at the trade deadline, the season took an ugly and twisted turn. Ricardo was already playing for Chicago of the Blood Nut League, which had ramifications that reached all the way to Transylvania. First Ricardo disappeared and her mutilated body was later found in the remote Carpathian Mountain region. Shortly after the discovery, Dr. Colossus, of the fledgling Beer Nut League, and Sioux City relief pitcher Chief Joseph were murdered, with Colossus’ body discovered at the exact instant that a bullet was finding Joseph’s forehead.
On the field, Sioux City’s top two pitchers, Kiskekosh and Barboncito, combined for a 12 and 40 record, each player losing 20 games in the process. The lone bright spot for the team was the performance of One-Eyed Dixie, who led the league in stolen bases with 117 thefts. Dixie was third in stolen base percentage with an awesome 95.1 percent success rate.
Picking up the pieces and moving on is the task that awaits Sioux City for Season #5. The roster will see a fairly major overhaul as seven players retired following what the Savages feel was a season that would not end. Nine draft picks, including the most talked about Bug Nut League prospect Dull Knife and promising pitcher Billy Bowlegs, have come in as well as Contraction and Chump Draft players that include outfielder Jeremiah Johnson and pitcher George Coe. With the infusion of so many new players, it is impossible to know exactly where the Savages will end up, but it is plainly obvious that they have dramatically improved their team in all areas.
Player quotes:
"Whenever I hear beer cans being crushed, see pony tails being tied and
groomed, and the smell the sweet stench of the peyote pipe, I know it's time
to 'take the field'."
John F. Kennedy, first baseman, when asked
how he overcomes the language barrier.
