A Season #2 expansion team, the Tyrants began the season in total turmoil. Three players, accused of being imposters, had already been executed before the team played a single game. Of the three, it was found that one, Mao Tse-Tung, was actually the real Mao Tse-Tung. The other two were posing as Chiang Kai Shek and Deng Xiaoping. The real Kai Shek played for the Beijing Commies of the Blood Nut League, and the real Xiaoping now plays for Moscow, but was acquired in a trade with Beijing. It was suspected that the imposters were sent from the Washington D.C. Heroes in a misguided conspiracy, however there never was any proof, only rumors. In Tse-Tung's honor, the B-Nut Leagues Hall of Fame has been named Tungland, where the motto is, “It's not the eatin' tongue, it's the Mao Tse-Tung.”
The Tyrants did their best to pick up the pieces and hung in the pennant race for a good part of Season #2, only to fade at the end. Moscow entered Season #4 with as many question marks as when they first joined the league, never fully recovering from the distractions of Season #2. While the distractions seemed to be behind them, Moscow’s win total dropped by six games, as they finished Season #4 with 71 wins. Their record in 1 run games has caused considerable concern as they had almost identical results in each season, going for 18 wins against 28 losses in Season #2 and 18 wins against 30 losses in Season #4. The strong development of closer Helmut Kohl and set up men Olaf Palme and Virgilio Barco Vargas should help in turning that trend around as the Tyrants head into Season #5.
While the bullpen looks as good as any other team, Moscow’s starting rotation is a weak spot, as a number of starters appear to be declining as they near retirement. Additionally, fan favorite Fidel Castro was forced to retire and leaves a large hole in the rotation. The Contraction Draft should bring some help to the rotation with the drafting of Toshiki Kaifu. The offense, led by the versatile Franz Von Pappen, will also have a hard time competing with the rest of the league in Season #5. While Charles DeGaulle did finish fourth in stolen bases with 50 in Season #4, that was a sharp decline from his league record 115 thefts in Season #2, and he is expected to decline further in Season #5.
Moscow is looking to their draft to make an immediate impact, which includes the selections of outfielder Benjamin Netanyahu, pitcher Tony Blair, and third baseman Oliver Cromwell. In another look toward the future, the Tyrants are looking to find potential stars in the Washington D.C. farm system. After the tragic mid-air collision with Beijing, the Heroes franchise folded and Moscow took over control of many of the D.C. prospects. This new relationship has already yielded two players that were drafted for Season #5: catcher George W. Bush and pitcher Rudolph Giuliani. So, while the outlook for Season #5 does not look great, the Tyrants are optimistic that the youth movement and the concentration on developing and expanding their farm system will turn the franchise around and allow them to focus on the future instead of the past.
