One of the expansion teams that joined the Bug Nut League for Season #2, the Miracle Workers formed half of their team from the players from Springfield. They began Season #2 with one of the most promising futures an expansion team has seen. Not only did they inherit the Monster of Springfield, Mike Brady, but they also took from Springfield all four of the regular starting pitchers and the primary closer. Combined with talented draft picks, Mayberry seemed assured of being very competitive.
A dark cloud was cast over the team, however, as Mike Brady saw an almost complete dismantling of his family. Marsha, suspected vampire, was slain by jealous sister Jan. Chump Draft '93 sent Carol, Cindy and Greg to different teams in the Blood Nut League. Both Bobby and Peter had horrid training camps and were affected so much by their older sister's death that they are now just shells of the players they once were. Jan, who has improved every season, is now an outcast and will forever be compared to her older and infinitely more talented (and now legendary) big sister. All that remained of the once happy family was one of the league's top relievers, Alice the Housekeeper.
Despite the distractions of Season #2, Mike Brady had another monster year in the power department, but with the dominance of Berkeley, the season's pennant race was over early. The two brightest spots in pitching for Season #2 was Freddie Mercury, who quickly became the ace of the staff, and Alice the Housekeeper, who quickly became the league's top closer.
Heading into Season #4, the Miracle Workers hoped to put the past behind them. With the emergence of Ringo Starr as the team's new closer, Alice the Housekeeper adjusted to a co-setup role alongside rookie phenom Marion Cunningham, as they formed perhaps the best bullpen in the league. While there were no off-field distractions as they had in the previous seasons, Mike Brady and his team saw mostly mediocrity on the field as the Miracle Workers finished 14 games under .500 and 37 games behind division winner Tombstone. Brady led the league in home runs, but his average plummeted to new lows. Many players who started well wore down as the season went on, leaving numerous holes in the lineup. The starting pitching was serviceable, but far from great. The relief pitching was, as expected, the strongest part of the team with Ringo Starr leading the league in saves (27) and finishing fourth in ERA among relievers (1.72 in 57.2 innings). Marion Cunningham tied for the league lead in relief ERA (1.59 in 62.1 innings) and Alice the Housekeeper lead the league in holds (11).
Mayberry enters Season #5 with the daunting task of competing with Tombstone and Berkeley in the Beetle Nut West. Jim Boy Walton and Maxwell Smart look to continue to improve in the field and with the bat, while Huckleberry Finn looks to become the ace of the staff as Freddie Mercury moves closer and closer to retirement. Marion Cunningham will move from the bullpen to the starting rotation, while Uncle Remus will move to the bullpen in what may be his final season. Mike Brady should continue to put up monster power numbers and several off-season acquisitions will help to solidify the lineup. Outfielders Andrea Mantegna and Daddy Hotcakes join three-time gold glove shortstop Emperor Commodus from the Expansion Draft, while catcher Jimmy Hoffa comes in from the Chump Draft.
